When not creating illustrations, Denise Benison is a counselling therapist that utilizes art-making as tools for individuals to delve into their inner selves and freely express their emotions and thoughts, fostering personal growth and self-discovery.

Denise lives in rural Nova Scotia with her husband, three children, dog, cat, and 3 stray bunnies that thankfully haven’t found the carrots in her veggie garden.

In 2019 she published her first children’s picture book titled, The Day We Went Into the Woods about two children wandering through the Rocky Mountains during their time living in Jasper National Park. She has a few more books in the works too. Horray.

She runs a private practice in New Glasgow, Pictou County and supports individuals and families with developmental related aspects of social-emotional health. Check out BEAM COUNSELLING.
